Water and Wastewater Department

The Grovetown Water and Wastewater Department is responsible for the local water supply, monitoring and maintenance of water quality, planning preventive and predicative maintenance, operation and repair of the water system, distribution system, and interfacing with the state agencies regarding water quality matters.

The City of Grovetown operates four wells that produce 4.016 million gallons of water per month. Two county booster stations produce approximately 9.8 million gallons of water a month. The city's three elevated water storage tanks hold 900,000 gallons of water.

The city's wastewater treatment plant can treat up to 580,000 gallons of sewage per day. The city sends approximately 300,000 gallons of sewage per day to Columbia County and approximarelty 50,000 gallons to Richmond County through metering manholes.

The city currently has seven lifstations.

The City of Grovetown Water and Wastewater Department is responsible for the following services:
  • Chemical testing of all water within the city limites to ensure the water is safe for consumption. This includes testing of city wells, county booster stations and various addresses within the city for state-mandated testing.
  • Flushing of all water lines.
  • Repairs to water and sewer lines, meters, manholes, water valves and hydrants.
  • Reading meters at residences and businesses for monthly water billing purposes.
  • Daily inspections of lift stations and maintenance and repairs of lift stations as needed.
  • Testing and treating sewage that comes into and discharges from the wastewater treatment facility.
  • Installation of new water and sewer lines in the city limits.
  • Handling all customer service calls for water and sewer issues.
  • Installation and replacement of water meters.
  • Maintenance of water, sewer and storm drainage easements.
If you have a break on your side of the city water meter, turn off the flow of water at the meter and call a plumber. The City Water Department is not authorized to make any repairs past the meter.
