Level 2 Drought Watering Restrictions

Because of persistent drought conditions over the past several years, Georgia remains under strict water restrictions. The City of Grovetown and the rest of Columbia County are currently in Drought Response Level 2.

Due to the historic drought, the state has taken these steps to ensure a sufficient supply of safe drinking water for all residents.

The Level 2 Drought Response declaration limits outdoor water use to mornings only. The outdoor watering schedules for residents of the City of Grovetown are as follows:
  • Outdoor water use is prohibited on Mondays.
  • No outdoor watering from 10 a.m. until midnight Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays midnight to 10 a.m.
  • Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays midnight to 10 a.m.
  • Use of hydrants for any purpose other than firefighting, public health. safety or flushing is prohibited.
  • Washing hard surfaces, such as streets, gutters, sidewalks and driveways except when necessary for public health and safety is prohibited.

New Sod Information

For authorization to water newly-installed sod contact the Water Department at 706-863-4576 to add your address to the New Sod 30-day Exemption List. New sod may be watered between midnight and 10 a.m. during the approved 30 day period, except on Mondays. No watering allowed on Monday, no exceptions.

The new sod permit must be posted on site and water service will be interrupted when permit is not posted. The first time service is interrupted for failure to post permit or for watering on an incorrect day or time, the owner should contact the Water Department for further information on Sod/Seed Permit and service restoration. The second and subsequent violations will result in interruption of service and the assessment of a penalty/fine. Water service will not be restored until the penalty/fine has been paid and the permit has been issued and posted on site.

Penalties for Violating the Water Conservation Restrictions

First Offense: Door hanger warning
Second Offense: $25 fine
Third Offense: $75 fine
Fourth and Subsequent Offenses: Disconnection of water service
